International Mother Language Day Celebration

Declared by the UNESCO organization, the 21st of February is announced as International Mother Language Day. This date has been internationally recognized since the year 2001.

Within the essence of International Mother Language Day lies the unique expression of each nation's national thoughts, spirituality, and identity that a language embodies, reflecting a special love for the language that shapes each individual's cultural and intellectual essence.

In connection with this occasion, a spiritual and intellectual event titled "He Who Knows a Language, Owns a World" was organized by the Department of Oriental Philology "Uzbek Language and Oriental Literature" at the Uzbek International Islamic Academy.

Prominent figures such as the Rector of the Uzbek International Islamic Academy Uygʻun Gʻafurov, a member of the Uzbek Writers' Union and a doctor of philology, the leading expert in Navoi studies and chief editor of the "Naqshbandiya" journal Sultonmurod Olimov, philology doctor and professor Qosimjon Sodiqov, heads of the National Cultural Centers of Tajikistan, Russia, and Turkmenistan, amongst others, partook in the event. It was also attended by vice-rectors of the Academy, the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Philology, Sayyora Chiniyeva, professors, lecturers, tutors, and students.

The speech session was conducted under the leadership of Zuhra Aripova, the head of the Department of "Uzbek Language and Oriental Literature."

Speakers highlighted the historical significance of giving the Uzbek language its deserved status as the state language, the importance of the youth's connection to our language, and the necessity for every individual to be an advocate for their national language to contribute to the cultural development of society.

At the end of the event, students presented poems and speeches in praise of our mother tongue.
